GENERAL DIRECTIONS TO THE CENTER
From Greensboro and Points West
On I-40 East, take the Chapel Hill 86 South exit (Airport Road/MLK Jr. Blvd/Columbia Street) (Exit 266) 4.5 miles into Chapel Hill. Turn right on Cameron Avenue, then left on Pittsboro Street, and the Global Education Center is on the left at the corner of Pittsboro and McCauley Streets. To use the parking deck, take a left on McCauley Street and then a right on Pharmacy Lane. The parking garage is on your right.
From Raleigh, RDU Airport and Points East
On I-40 West, take the Chapel Hill/Hwy 54 exit (Exit 273A). Follow Hwy 54/Raleigh Road/South Road through campus. The road turns into McCauley Street, and the Global Education Center is on the left at the corner of Pittsboro and McCauley Streets. To use the parking deck, take a left on Pharmacy Lane. The parking garage is on your right.
From Durham and Points North
On I-85, exit right at the 15-501 South (Chapel Hill) exit. At the edge of Chapel Hill, veer right onto Franklin Street. In the downtown area, turn left on Columbia Street (86 South), then right on Cameron Avenue and left on Pittsboro Street. The Global Education Center is on the left at the corner of Pittsboro and McCauley Streets. To use the parking deck, take a left on McCauley Street and then a right on Pharmacy Lane. The parking garage is on your right.
All convention activities are in FedEx Global Education Center (GEC) at UNC. GEC (see attached picture) is on McCauley Street, a two-way
The GEC building is flanked by South Columbia Street (northbound one-way) to the left and Pittsboro Street (southbound one-way) to the right. You can reach GEC by entering McCauley Street from either streets. McCauley Street extends from South Road (two-way) which stops at South Columbia Street. South Road becomes McCauley across South Columbia Street. See attached map for traffic pattern.
GEC's lower two levels P1 and P2 are parking decks. Entrance is
to the left of GEC Building on a small alley called Pharmacy Lane.
You enter Pharmacy Lane from McCauley Street. The first right on
Pharmacy Lane is McCauley Parking Deck entrance. The deck is
free and open on Saturday and Sunday on a first-come first-served
basis. P1 is street level with 30 parking spaces; we reserved 10
spaces for invited guests and speakers. Please do not park there
unless you have a permit from Tao or Chris. P2 is basement level
or Level 2 with 92 spaces. You should be able to find a vacant
space on Level 2 if you arrive early Saturday or Sunday. There are
stairs and elevators on P1 and P2 levels to take you up to the main
levels inside the GEC Building.
At the end of the tiny Pharmacy Lane is Beard Lot with 36 spaces
also on first-come first-served basis free on Saturday and Sunday.
It is an open sky lot, not sheltered, but easy to see and find. You
may try this parking lot first before using McCauley deck (sheltered).
Beard Lot is a 30-second walk to the GEC entrance.
The first left on Pharmacy Lane is Phi Delta Theta Parking Lot; it
may appear empty but please do NOT park there as it is a fraternity
parking (private). 24-hour towing enforced warning is posted there.
Just one block from GEC Building is New Venable Parking Lot (the
big P on the attached map). It is the last right turn of South Road
(when you westbound on it) just before you hit South Columbia
Street. This big lot is landmarked by a tall white concrete building
called Morehead Laboratories - you can't miss it. The open-sky
lot has 60 spaces free on Saturday and Sunday. The lot is 1.5
minute (if no red lights) from the GEC Building. You do have to
cross South Columbia Street and McCauley Street to reach GEC
